What's happening in the school nurse world in ND?
The Grand Forks and Grand Forks Air Force Base Public School Districts work together in a unique arrangement to serve approximately 7,400 students who attend schools in the two communities. Approximately 1,600 people are employed, including over 750 teachers and over 850 support and administrative staff. Two high schools, one alternative high school, three middle schools, 11 elementary schools, one combined elementary and middle school and one Head Start Program comprise the arrangement of the schools.
Through the work of the school nurses, the district was able to pass lactation guidelines to support new mothers that choose to express breastmilk during work hours. After implementing these guidelines, the district was awarded a grant from Grand Forks Public Health to purchase 13 mini-fridges. These fridges can now be checked out by employees and used to store their breast milk in a convenient location.
